The purpose of this important course is to help Peace Officers develop the necessary skills to deal effectively with various situations presented to them by individuals of various ethnicities without being labeled or accused of racial profiling. Additionally, Officers will find responses to the following 4 questions that are frequently asked in the law enforcement departments:
- What cultural factors influence minority public’s negative perception of Peace Officers?
- How can officers enhance their effectiveness in cross-cultural communications and problem solving skills in order to deal efficiently with people of various races?
- How to avoid the perception of Police profiling by dealing appropriately with the behavioral patterns (verbal and non-verbal) exhibited by people of various ethnicities?
- What types of Police interventions are appropriate with resistance of persons of various races, in order to avoid perception of Police Profiling when providing appropriate responses to diverse cultural confrontations? This course, Cultural Diversity Competency and Racial Profiling for Peace Officers is approved as a required course for three (3) credit hours of Continuing Education for Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Missouri with reciprocity in many other states. The Department of Public Safety of the Sate of Missouri approved this course for continuing education hours for the statewide P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards of Training) Program, in the core curriculum area of Interpersonal. At the completion of the course, participants will be issued a certificate containing the assigned P.O.S.T. Control Number for this course.
